  • 12/16/11--00:00: Press Release regarding recent Federal Court Decision on challenge to Congressional District Map (chan 1581904)
  • On Thursday, December 15, the State Board of Elections received notice that a three judge panel for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois ruled in favor of the defendants and has dismissed the lawsuit brought by Committee for a Fair and Balanced Map, et al. v. Illinois State Board of Elections, et al., No. 11-c-5065. It is not known whether the Plaintiffs intend to appeal or seek reconsideration of this decision. The Board however, wishes to inform candidates for the office of Representative in the United States Congress that the dates previously established by Court Order are still in effect and are as follows:

    • Friday, December 23, 2011, 8:00 a.m.: First day to file for candidates seeking the office of Representative in the U.S. Congress

    • Tuesday, December 27, 2011, 5:00 p.m.: Last day to file for candidates seeking the office of Representative in the U.S. Congress (Please note that the Board offices will be closed on December 24th, 25th and 26th in observance of the Christmas Holiday.)

    • Wednesday, January 4, 2012, 1:00 p.m.: Last day for filing objections to the nominating petitions of candidates who have filed for the office of Representative in the U.S. Congress.

    • Tuesday, January 17, 2012: Last day for the State Board of Elections to certify the names of Congressional candidates to the county clerks.

  • The Campaign Finance Reform Task Force was established in 2010 to conduct a thorough review of the implementation of campaign finance reform legislation in the State of Illinois, and the feasibility of implementing a mechanism of campaign finance regulation that would subsidize political campaigns in exchange for voluntary adherence to specified expenditure limitations (10 ILCS 5/9-40).

    The Task Force is charged with studying and reporting on the feasibility of implementing a mechanism of campaign finance regulation that would subsidize political campaigns in exchange for voluntary adherence to specified expenditure limitations.

    The attached report on Public Campaign Financing and Illinois Elections (i) outlines the history and development of public campaign finance in the United States and in Illinois; (ii) examines the public policy arguments in support of and in opposition to the development and implementation of a public campaign finance system in Illinois; (iii) explains and analyzes the current state of the law with respect to public campaign finance; and (iv) offers several feasible alternatives on how a public campaign finance system might be implemented in Illinois. The report does not include a consensus recommendation regarding public financing, but rather, presents various options related to the adoption of public financing.

  • 01/13/12--00:00: Campaign Disclosure -- Quarterly Report Filing Deadline – Tuesday, January 17, 2012 (chan 1581904)
  • The filing period for the December 2011 Quarterly Report ends Tuesday, January 17th. The December 2011 Quarterly Report must include all committee activity from October 1st through December 31st. The Board must receive this report by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17th when filing on paper or by 11:59:59 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17th when filing electronically.

    This Quarterly Report must be filed by all active political committees; it must be filed regardless of whether the committee has had any activity during that period of time.

    If filing on paper, reports must be postmarked by Saturday, January 14th to be considered a timely filing if received after the deadline.
